Really... think about it... it's kinda boggling...
Perhaps we'll get to establish a few channels in the near future, but heck, I think it rocks!
0.3:
4 global server channels due [Aug '05 Lttp]: General, Trade, ISO Group, RPG
That's ok too, because it takes time to get to know how to best optimize a system with such potential.
Basically, if you don't have something that you want *everybody* to hear, then keep it in a private tell.
I really don't want to see a lot of people filtering the allegiance chat, it also filters the patron, vassal, and co-vassal chat.
If we keep our messages brief, concise, informative and well thought out, this shouldn't be too big a deal to adapt to.
Here are some good examples of when to broadcast:
- you've found a rare spawn, rare portal, other unusual object / attraction
- you need help; don't even hesitate, just keep it brief, and move into @tells
- you're on a quest *and* we've got more than one fellowship running
- you just signed on *and* are up for something, lookin' for a crew to haul around with, etc.
- you're offering up your tinkering services for a few minutes before you sign-off for the night
Of course there are more, but you get the idea. If the channel stays relatively quiet, you won't bother all the other people playing and trying to read the screen for other, potentially more important text.
If I wanted to know when you logged in / out - I could find out, ty; don't tell me how the pets and offspring are; move into direct tells as soon as possible; and damnit, please keep it clean: in my book, swearing more than accidentally is approaching ucm as far as manners go.
I know of people that had it filtered from Day 1.
I know of people that have requested I ask people not to use it.
Please, the least you can do is *try* to think of those folks; keep in mind - you may not know 'em all!
One last thing: if I am logged on, just give me an @tell when you think the allegiance chat channel is becoming too loud for you; I will be more than happy to put my own channel request out for folks to tone it down.
Thanks!
